I typed PORGS! in response to
sparkythegeek and he picked these three icons for me to explain.

I have this icon for posts relating to Coffee Party USA, which I have been involved with since shortly after it was founded in 2010. I created the
coffeepartyusa communities first on LiveJournal and here on Dreamwidth in 2010 with the permission of the founders. I became one of the Coffee Party's social media consultants late in 2010. In 2011, I served on the Coffee Party's transition team to an elected Board of Directors. In 2012 and 2013, I served on the Board Development Work Group, screening candidates for the Board of Directors. Since 2014, I have served on the Board of Directors as Secretary and Director of Partnerships. I also am an editor for the Join The Coffee Party Movement Facebook page as well as one of the admins for the Michigan and Pennsylvania Coffee Party Facebook page. If anyone wants to know a serious keyboard activist, look no further.

I lived in Bakersfield, California during 1982 and 1983. The place has a bit of a self-esteem and image problem (my friend
nebris calls the city "a fourth-rate L.A. at the ass end of nowhere"). That's reflected in this icon, the text of which I saw on a T-shirt at the now demolished Bakersfield Inn. Obviously, it stuck with me.

Yes, I was briefly associated with Anonymous during its protests against Scientology during 2008-2009. I was predisposed to do this because of my time on alt.usenet.kooks, which gave Scientology and some of its leaders kook awards. I also had friends and students who were involved. I found it an interesting experience and even stopped by one protest across the street from the Detroit office of Scientology, which is really in Farmington Hills. I now live a few miles from it and flip it off every time I drive past it.

In a word: Food
Mar. 16th, 2011 01:19 am
Continuing with selecting news posts with a common theme out of last week's Overnight News Digest: Science Saturday, I am posting three news items about Food. I'm planning on passing them out to my Global Politics of Food class tomorrow as current events and research to discuss. Why not get double duty out of them? After all, I was able to convince my department chair that compiling these articles was a form of professional development. :-)
( Articles from Michigan State University and Purdue University about Food Deserts, the causes of the rising prices of food, and the effects of overfertilizing corn grown for ethanol behind the cut. )
I have at most a week on my free paid user trial on LJ. I'd better load up that "all your bouillabaise are belong to us" icon that I'm using here on Dreamwidth there before it runs out. I could use a food icon, there, too.
