I typed PORGS! in response to
sparkythegeek and he picked these three icons for me to explain.

I have this icon for posts relating to Coffee Party USA, which I have been involved with since shortly after it was founded in 2010. I created the
coffeepartyusa communities first on LiveJournal and here on Dreamwidth in 2010 with the permission of the founders. I became one of the Coffee Party's social media consultants late in 2010. In 2011, I served on the Coffee Party's transition team to an elected Board of Directors. In 2012 and 2013, I served on the Board Development Work Group, screening candidates for the Board of Directors. Since 2014, I have served on the Board of Directors as Secretary and Director of Partnerships. I also am an editor for the Join The Coffee Party Movement Facebook page as well as one of the admins for the Michigan and Pennsylvania Coffee Party Facebook page. If anyone wants to know a serious keyboard activist, look no further.

I lived in Bakersfield, California during 1982 and 1983. The place has a bit of a self-esteem and image problem (my friend
nebris calls the city "a fourth-rate L.A. at the ass end of nowhere"). That's reflected in this icon, the text of which I saw on a T-shirt at the now demolished Bakersfield Inn. Obviously, it stuck with me.

Yes, I was briefly associated with Anonymous during its protests against Scientology during 2008-2009. I was predisposed to do this because of my time on alt.usenet.kooks, which gave Scientology and some of its leaders kook awards. I also had friends and students who were involved. I found it an interesting experience and even stopped by one protest across the street from the Detroit office of Scientology, which is really in Farmington Hills. I now live a few miles from it and flip it off every time I drive past it.

Date: 2017-12-29 01:46 am (UTC)I think we shop at the same Whole Foods, then. We're closer than I thought.

Date: 2017-12-29 01:47 am (UTC)Be funny if we've actually seen each other in the store then, haha. I don't live close to it - it's just the closest Whole Foods to me.

Date: 2017-12-29 02:03 am (UTC)It would be funny. As for the next nearest one to you, I bet it would be the Downtown Detroit store. The people are nicer and the products are more affordable than West Bloomfield, but the parking is scarce. I suspect it will be a while before a location opens up in western Wayne County. If any place would be a good fit for the chain, it would be Northville or Plymouth, although the latter people are probably used to driving to Ann Arbor to shop at Whole Foods.

Date: 2017-12-29 02:05 am (UTC)I'd heard with Amazon purchasing WFM, they'd be looking at new locations to expand the brand. I think Canton could also pull off adding a WFM, but it's pretty grocery-saturated and they're also used to traveling to Ann Arbor. For me, that'd be the same distance as WB or Detroit anyway.
