I decided not to include this video in Closer looks at the DNC from Stewart, Colbert, and Meyers because it was insufficiently funny and including the previous episode in Silly and serious looks at night 3 of the DNC from Colbert and FiveThirtyEight didn't help much.

This video didn't come out until after I finished writing The Daily Show covers Tim Walz plus Walz's first speech as running mate.

I researched what caused the Federalists and Whigs to collapse. The Federalists stopped winning elections, faded into irrelevancy, and supported the adversary in a foreign war.  That's what I hoped would happen to the Republicans. It's not happening, at least any time soon.  The Whigs were riven by divisions over slavery and failed to renominate their own sitting President.  That was the last straw and opened the door for the Republicans to take over their slot as a major party.  The Democrats have just failed to renominate their own sitting President, although the details are different.  It encourages me that the Democrats were on the wrong side of the Civil War and still survived, but that's cold comfort right now.

I used a quote from The Guardian instead in House votes to approve debt ceiling deal, on to the Senate.

I cut the following video out of Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson among those awarded Presidential Citizens Medals on the second anniversary of January 6th in favor of a WDIV video with tighter focus on Benson and an ABC News video that showed everyone who earned the honor.

I found funnier videos with the same content for Colbert and MSNBC on Fetterman vs. Oz in Pennsylvania.
