I present to you some unfunny about a fandom that does unfunny things in a funny way--Juggalos. It seems that the fans of Insane Clown Posse have become decidedly unfunny to law enforcement and the FBI has made some Foolish Ballistic Insinuations as a consequence.

Last fall, the FBI included Juggalos in their National Gang Assessment for 2011 (PDF). On pages 22 and 23, the FBI lists them under "non-traditional gangs," calling them "a loosely-organized hybrid gang." Some of the criminal activities carried out by ICP fans appear in this section, along with a photo of a Juggalo with a gun that the FBI took from the ATF (trigger warning for descriptions of violence).

At first, the inclusion of Juggalos in the FBI's list was mocked by Spencer Ackerman at Wired, who observed "The FBI has recently had difficulty distinguishing ordinary American Muslims from terrorists; now it appears it has a similar problem distinguishing teenage fads from criminal conspiracies." As recently as Thursday, the Village Voice posted that people thought the FBI report was an example of "another example of a federal agency looking foolish for its cultural ineptitude." That was until the U.S. Marshal Service issued a press release listing the fugitives added to New Mexico's Most Wanted.
Mark Anthony Carslon A.K.A. Mark Carlton is wanted on two felony warrants for failing to comply with the terms of probation both on underlying armed robbery cases. Carlson is a member of the Insane Clown Posse “Juggalo” gang. The “Juggalos” were recently classified as a gang by the Albuquerque Police Department Gang unit and it is believed that Carlson is still actively committing armed robberies in the Albuquerque Metro area.
Bolding from The Village Voice, who also reproduced Carlson's wanted poster, which listed his criminal affiliation as "Insane Clown Posse 'Juggalo'." Poster over the jump.

The saying is that everone is Irish on St. Patrick's day. Russia Today demonstrates the truth of that saying with St. Patrick's Day in Moscow.

There's a new reality dating show on TLC called Geek Love, which started at New York Comic Con with "sci-fi" speed dating and continues after that, showing the geeks in their daily lives, and following them in their quest for love!

If Li Anne had been there, she would have joined that speed dating session. To find out why, watch as Li Anne gives you her top 8 Reasons Why You Should Date a Geek!
I wonder if anyone has told Li Anne that she should be careful what she wishes for.

Seriously.

Last Night in Michigan (248)

I'm not sure how to feel about that. Maybe glad I'm too old to be participating, but young enough to be amused.

Video accompanies The Daily Telegraph's article Chile superheroes dance for education reform
Hundreds of caped avengers dance in downtown Santiago, as part of a demonstration for education changes.

After being bummed by Borders going out of business, I could use something like the above to cheer me up. Not only is it a demonstration by young people against austerity (the students want lower tuition and cheaper bus passes), something we've seen from Cairo to London, it's a creative and fun way to attract attention and get the point across. In fact, the students in Chile have been particularly creative, as the BBC video about this story shows, as they also staged a kissing protest. The BBC video, in fact, gives a lot more context than the one above, but I couldn't find an embed code for it, so The Telegraph wins.

As for how the story is being covered in the U.S., I present the lede from NBC 9 News in Colorado.
Wonder Woman, Batman and Superman demonstrated for education reform in Chile Monday night.
I saw more than just those the big three from DC Comics. I also recognized Huntress, Sailor Moon, and Mario from the Mario Brothers video games. It was a true geek riot.

I salute the Chilean students, who are swimming against the stream while flying their geek flag high!

Since I finally started playing a MMORPG, in this case Rift, after a long history of frustration with Final Fantasy XI and XIV, all of the lore about these games has become more relevant to me. For starters, here's something I stumbled across yesterday that I found absolutely fascinating.

The 7 Biggest Dick Moves in the History of Online Gaming

Of course, it's Cracked.

No surprise, World of Warcraft provides two of the seven. What was interesting was that EVE provided another two examples. Even more interesting was the difference between the two games' brands of outlandishly bad behavior. WOW's dick moves all involved highly dishonorable ways of killing lots of people. EVE's were all about theft, fraud, and embezzlement--in short, money, lots of money. Since I've never played EVE, I had no idea.

Rift is a very new game, so it didn't even exist when this article was published. Here's to hoping I don't see it used as an example in a follow-up.
