From Patrick S. Tomlinson on Twitter
You watched a generation grow up on a diet of Harry Potter, Hunger Games, and Marvel movies, you stripped away their hope, their jobs, their futures, and then backed the most cartoonish super-villain in history for President, and you're shocked the children are fighting back?
Really? You followed the damned script to a T. You pumped up millions of kids, for two decades, to believe they and their friends could make a difference. Then you thrust them all into a dystopian nightmare of violence and persecution. And NOW you're shocked they're all Katniss?
Get them, children. Leave no one standing.

Harry Potter's birthday

Since I posted July's saved comments yesterday, I have today free to do something not related to my blogging and commenting life elsewhere. WXYZ provided me that something yesterday with On Harry Potter's birthday, a reminder: Daniel Radcliffe is a Red Wings fan.

After 28 years of living here, I've learned that Detroit media will celebrate any connection with Detroit.

By Christine Kearney
NEW YORK | Thu Feb 23, 2012 1:59pm EST
(Reuters) - J.K. Rowling, whose "Harry Potter" fantasy book series became a global publishing phenomenon, is writing her first novel for adults but the title and plot are still a closely-guarded secret.

The British writer, 46, whose teenage boy wizard tales became international best-sellers and inspired a series of hit films, said on Thursday that her new novel would be "very different" to the "Harry Potter" books that made her a household name and turned her into a billionaire.

"Although I've enjoyed writing it every bit as much, my next book will be very different to the Harry Potter series," Rowling said in a statement.

Following up on my previous posts in my LiveJournal and fandom_lounge on JournalFen on university teams playing Quidditch, a case of life imitating art.

Right now, the video above has more views than either of the videos UCLA posted about their men's basketball team in the NCAA Tournament within the same 24 hour period.

UCLA Quidditch

Inspired by the famous "Harry Potter" book and film series, Quidditch is the newest sport to sweep the UCLA campus and the rest of the world. UCLA is actively involved in the International Quidditch Association's Western Regional Division. Learn about this unique sport and its players who made Quidditch a bona fide club sport team at UCLA. "Fantasy becoming a reality does not happen nearly as often as it should."
The video above shows that Eastern Michigan University isn't the only one of my four alma maters that plays organized Quidditch. UCLA does as well. The University of Michigan also has a team Even California State University, Northridge, which has the least school spirit of any of my four alma maters, has a Facebook page for people trying to organize a team.

So, three of my four alma maters have Quidditch teams and the fourth is trying. How about yours?
