As for our host, I see he "considered casting [his vote] for Johnson / Weld, until Gary Johnson demonstrated that the front end of his brain is missing. Aleppo? Wasn’t he one of the Marx Brothers?" He wasn't alone in his consternation, as Johnson earned endorsements from the Chicago Tribune and Detroit News while simultaneously having Stephen Colbert, Seth Meyers, Bill Maher, and Sarah Silverman laugh at him. Johnson has enough visibility and name recognition that he's worth making fun of. That's what success for a minor party candidate looks like.
My comment on Wounded Elephant
"The only good to come out of this sordid election is the certainty that a lot of political debris will be swept away in the Fourth Turning underway." As someone who has been a fan of Strauss and Howe for 25 years, I am always pleased to see you reference their work. Yes, we're in The Fourth Turning and have been since 2008, if not 2001. The difference in start date matters. If it's the earlier date, we might be out of it by the end of the decade. The latter date implies the Crisis Era might go on for another decade. Oh, to live in interesting times!
"If it gets bad enough, the shelves of the supermarkets go bare in three days and you’re living in a permanent hurricane disaster without the wind and rain." That's quite a fitting image, given our close brush with Hurricane Matthew. At least our space program survived this storm, if not the financial one you forecast.
"This is not entirely a nation of clowns, though it feels like that lately." I was wondering if you'd reference all the sightings of creepy clowns lately, and you didn't disappoint. Some of these clown sightings are real and of people using clown masks to commit crimes. It's enough to remind me of The Joker and Harley Quinn and drive me to drink.
