My comments on Midweek Cafe and Lounge, Vol. 63.

The bar/cafe is open

Just like this week's diary is continuing with the German theme, so is the drink feature. Today's drink is the German Chocolate Cake Martini.

Here's the recipe:
GERMAN CHOCOLATE CAKE MARTINI
1 oz. (30ml) Cake Vodka
1/2 oz. (15ml) Amaretto
2 1/2 oz. (75ml) Milk
1 Tbsp Cream of Coconut
2 Tbsp Chocolate Syrup
1 Tbsp Caramel Syrup Coconut Flakes
PREPARATION
1. Rim edge of glass with chocolate syrup and coconut flakes. Set aside.
2. Combine cake vodka, amaretto, milk and cream of coconut with ice and shake well.
3. Garnish inside of martini glass with chocolate and caramel syrup and pour mix inside. Enjoy responsibly!
I plan on serving special drinks for tomorrow and Saturday for Star Wars Day and Cinco De Mayo, respectively.

In the meantime, the bartender is taking requests.

And may the Fourth be with you.

Here's the drink I promised for Star Wars Day, Star Wars Shots (Han Shot First).

Hans Solo and Greedo shots based on Star Wars! Who shot first?
It was my pleasure to keep this series going while you were occupied with life. Speaking of which, sorry to read about how things are going for you, although it at least looks like the situation will resolve itself. If you ever need me to take over for a week or two, just ask. I'll be happy to do so.

For Cinco De Mayo, the bartender is serving Drunk Frutas by Tipsy Bartender.

We bought some fruit from a fruit stand and spiked them! Check it out!

Since this diary is still on the rec list (congratulations, Don Durito!) and today is The Revenge of the Sixth, the Dark Side of Star Wars Day, I'm posting some more Star Wars Drinks. As the theme is "the Dark Side of the Force," here's an image from Pinterest showing drinks for both The Force and The Dark Side.

Yes, those actually have been served at the Hollywood Studios park in Walt Disney World.

My comment on Serious Question.

What bento wrote. I shouldn't have been surprised; Haldane was a very witty and quotable biologist. I wish I had half his wit and quotability.

As for Larry Niven, the closest I could find to his writing that is a false positive. From "The Asteroid Queen" in "Man-Kzin Wars III" is the sentence "the universe was not only stranger than humans imagined, but stranger than they could imagine." Unfortunately, while this story took place in Niven's Known Space, he was not the author. Jerry Pournelle and S.M. Sterling were.

My comment on Things that happen when you run for Congress.

He beat AG?

My comment on An Experiment.

No, it wouldn't be NPR. That's radio, not television. If you want to mess up public television, it would be PBS. That would be more difficult than for a commercial network, as PBS programs are produced all over the country, not just in New York, Washington, and Los Angeles.

If you wanted to mess up what passes for a left-wing commercial television outlet, it would be MSNBC or maybe VICE news on HBO. Since you don't watch TV, you wouldn't likely know this. On the other hand, you read my journal and can probably tell that I watch a lot of it.

The box office performance of "Infinity War" deserves a drink. Tipsy Bartender just happens to have four of them from the very first movie in the series six years ago: The Avengers Cocktails.

These cocktails are based on these four Avengers; The Hulk, Thor, Iron Man and Captain America.
...
THE AVENGERS COCKTAILS

THE HULK
1 part Absinthe
1 part Midori
3 parts Mountain Dew

THOR: GOD OF THUNDER
1 part Berry Liqueur
1 part Mead
1 part Lingonberry Vodka

IRON MAN
1 part Grenadine
1 part Drambuie
2 parts Orange Juice
1 part Scotch

CAPTAIN AMERICA
1 part Grenadine
1 part Blue Curacao
1 part Creme de Cacao
Drink up to superheroes!

That scene won an award from the Visual Effects Society.
Outstanding Virtual Cinematography in a Photoreal Project
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2; Groot Dance/Opening Fight
James Baker, Steven Lo, Alvise Avati, Robert Stipp
Well, lingonberries are very Scandinavian, as is the mead. I agree with Skyy; cherry vodka should work just about as well and would be a lot easier to find.

My comment on On Elliott Broidy and the RNC.

If Nielsen engaged in such cosplay, would she remind people of Sybil Danning and Sherie Moon Zombie in "Werewolf Women of the S.S."?

There, I saw your Nazi comparison and raised you with some sexual objectification.

My comment on Magic Monday.

The Atlantic published an article about The Ritual Design Lab, which is "working to generate new rituals for modern life, with an eye to user experience." Have you heard of this already and what do you think of it?

"The Americans" is about a Russian family trying to pass as Americans, among other things. That inspired me to post Awesome 4th of July Drinks in which a Russian model, Inna, presents drinks for the number one patriotic American holiday and comments about the differences between Russia and America. What, you thought I couldn't find a theme and video for this post? HAH!

We give you two super fun drinks for the 4th of July holiday!
...

THE DIVERSITY BOMB SHOT

I think Inna was trying to say either oppressed or repressed when she said that "women are pressed in Russia."

The bartender is taking requests.

My comments on The Mad King.

"Let us hope that his replacement is not the product of incest and that no one gives Tiffany Trump any dragon eggs."

Too late on both counts.

Speaking of Trump as the mad king...

My comment on Does the NRA Know Ollie North's History?

Only if there is sex involved. Should we ask Fawn Hall?

Since you wrote that you liked White Russians as a vodka drink, here's one from Tipsy Bartender: Butterscotch White Russian. Consider it fulfilling a request.

BUTTERSCOTCH WHITE RUSSIAN
1 oz. (30ml) Butterscotch Schnapps

1 oz. (30ml) Coffee Liqueur
2 oz. (60ml) Half & Half
Caramel Syrup
Crushed Butterscotch Candies
PREPARATION
1. Rim glass with caramel syrup and crushed butterscotch candies. Set aside.
2. In an ice filled glass combine butterscotch schnapps and coffee liqueur. Shake well.
3. Add ice to rimmed glass and pour mix over top. Gently pour half and half on top. Enjoy responsibly!
He even makes the appropriate Russian jokes for this blog. Unfortunately, he didn't get the Russian model from the last video to make it.

The bartender is taking requests.

My comment on The World of Michael Cohen and Felix Sater.

"This investigation is starting to look like going fishing in a rowboat and reeling in the tentacle of the biggest squid imaginable."

That deserves a meme.

My comment on Laughing At Their Base.

To reference Lincoln, since at least 2008, if not earlier, the Republicans have consisted of the people who can be fooled all the time and the people who are fooling them. We know which group Trump, Kushner, and Miller belong to.

My comments on Winners of the first Coffee Party Entertainment Awards for movies.

Absolutely. In fact, I'm so looking forward to it that I'm posting a coffee drink in anticipation: Morning Coffee.

Ready to DJ and tend bar Wednesdays from June 13th to July 11th!

I'm doing my best to make your diary a success.

My comment on Giuliani Concedes that Impeachment is Coming.

Even a stopped clock is right twice a day.

BTW, this is what makes me worried that William Kristol is on our side re: Trump. He's always wrong!

My comment on This blog has a ratings abuse problem.

I looked for a guide to ratings here and just found two diaries recommended as user guides. The second had the following advice.
Comment Ratings - This is a huge issue within the Booman Tribune community, and it essentially boils down to two different things. Whenever you see a Comment (and you are a registered user), you can "rate" that person's Comment. You can rate it between a 1 and a 4 (or a 0 and a 4 if you are a Trusted User). But the rating of Comments serves two purposes:

Troll Vaccination - A "troll" is an old internet term which means someone who writes deliberately inflammatory things to upset people. Sometimes however people write crass or uncalled for things, and these are considered "troll" Comments (or Diaries). If the combined Ratings for a Comment falls below 1.0, then the Comment is "hidden" from non-Trusted User users. This is to keep people from hijacking this website.
Mojo - The way people Rate your Comment often is an indication of how they feel about either you, what you said, or the issue in general. Sometimes this is an orgy of positive energy, with people giving you a high rating (4) or sometimes people get vindictive and give you a low rating (0 or 1) because they don't like you personally.

Giving someone a low rating simply because you disagree with what they say, rather than as a response to "trollish" or inflammatory behavior, is considered extremely rude and frankly it is also counterproductive for the community as a whole!
It was helpful, but not very specific about how to handle individual ratings. The European Tribune New User Guide was much more helpful.
The "Up" ratings

4 is used to reward a comment that you find particularly good (whether you agree with it or not). It may be informative, useful, intelligent, well-argued, funny. It also encourages commenters by showing that they have been read. It is a social device for the community. On ET, the 4 is the generally-used "like" or "thumbs-up" rating.

3 was originally intended to show approval of interesting, but less excellent comments. However, it has practically gone out of use on ET, and may be the cause of misunderstanding - so it is better avoided altogether.

The "Down" ratings

2 is rarely used. It may be used as a warning for comments that are unnecessarily aggressive, personal or disruptive in their tone.

1 is used to rate a comment "trollish", i.e. appears calculated to provoke angry reactions, is grossly aggressive or insulting, or really inappropriate. Even more rarely used than 2.

"Down" ratings should never be used to indicate that you disagree with the comment. If in doubt, wait and see what other members do. Remember that you or the commenter might be having a bad day, you or the commenter might have misinterpreted something or missed a joke (very easy on a forum in English where many don't have English as first language). Use without thought may send the wrong signals and tends to produce overheated discussion.

Count to 10 and think before using. Or ignore. Also read the The ETiquette.
Since 3 is considered an "up" rating, I will follow the letter of your advice and give one particular user 3 ratings unless I think the comment really deserves a 4. That should be enough to prevent their comments from being hidden.

A related issue is that some of the commenters here are grouping into factions, two of which have some but not all of their members using downrates as weapons in factional warfare. I'm supporting one regularly downrated member of each faction by uprating their comments.

I have another recipe already planned for June 6th.

The bartender is taking requests.

I'll see your anarchopunk meets Taoism and raise you some post-punk meets Zen Buddhism. Here's Shriekback - Gunning For The Buddha.

My comment on Diane Black Says Porn Causes School Shootings.

"It's like when the German pornographers attacked Pearl Harbor, did the good guys with massive personal armaments just give up?"

Hey, I know that speech.
