My comment on IT'S ALL CULTURE WAR FROM NOW UNTIL NOVEMBER.

It used to be that Ayn Rand was the influential "intellectual" on the Right that the U.S. Left loved to hate. As more and more of us understand Norman Vincent Peale's role in shaping Trump's thinking, he might replace her. I'm not surprised; "The Power of Positive Thinking" is killing us!

My comment on From the Mind of Junior Mints.

When he rode down the escalator 5 years ago, my wife said he looked like The Penguin running for Mayor of Gotham City. I've called him The Penguin ever since. This clip shows the one way he fails worst at living up to that nickname. The real Penguin gets along with birds.

As for his son's girlfriend, would you believe she used to be married to Gavin Newsom? I didn't until I saw a photo of them together!

My comments on Magic Monday (the 13th).

My wife is thinking of getting into astrology again. In particular, she wants to buy books by Linda Goodman. What do you think of Goodman as an astrologer?

It might also have to do with "The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina" on Netflix. In the latest season, the coven that Sabrina belongs to lost the favor of Lucifer, so they became devotees of Hecate as new source of divine power.

My comment on "Try!"

“[H]is lectures attracted the attention of influential members of the British occult scene…Edward Bulwer-Lytton” — I had no idea Baron Bulwer-Lytton, who is most famous for “It was a dark and stormy night” and has an award for bad writing named after him was an occultist. The things one learns from you never ceases to astound me! By the time your series is over, your readers could do a game of six degrees of separation with any American occultist and quite a few in Europe as well.

Speaking of which, “[A]t the time of his death in 1947, the O.T.O under [Crowley’s] jurisdiction consisted of one lodge in Pasadena, California, which broke up a few years later.” This connects not only Crowley and Randolph to Grady McMurtry, but also to Jack Parsons, Sarah Northrup, and through Sarah to L. Ron Hubbard. The web of connections among occultists really seems to bind “The Magic Republic” together more tightly the more one looks!
