My comments on Midweek Cafe and Lounge, Vol. 88
Here's a cover by the band I'll be posting in comments this week, Queen - Dont Stop Me Now (by Broken Peach)
From the album "Jazz" - Song Written by Freddie Mercury & performed by Queen! Now, the band's most popular video, "This is Halloween."
Song written by Danny Elfman for "The Nightmare Before Christmas film" directed by Henry Selick! That's certainly appropriate for the holiday!
The bar/cafe is open
For tonight's drink, I'm sharing Tipsy Bartender's Cocktail Artist Mar-Gore-ita.
HERE'S THE RECIPE:Step 4 was orginally step 5, which prompted me to be a bit silly in the comments.
COCKTAIL ARTIST MAR-GORE-RITA
1 1/2 oz Tequila
1 1/2 oz Melon Liqueur
3 oz. (90ml) Tipsy Bartender Margarita Mix
Garnish: Dry Ice/Black Salt Rim/Bloody Lychee Eyeballs
PREPARATION
1. Rim edge of margarita glass with black salt. Set aside.
2. In an ice filled shaking glass combine tequila, melon liqueur and Tipsy Bartender margarita mix. Shake well.
3. Add dry ice and regular ice to rimmed glass, pour margarita mix over.
[4]. Garnish with lychee eyeballs.
DRINK RESPONSIBLY!"
Preparation looks like a set of Monty Python rules: There is no rule number 6! In this case, there is no step number 4.Let's see if Skyy John corrects it.
The bartender is taking requests.
Thanks for the good word. However, I was planning on taking a break from documentaries to return to winners of the other Grammy Awards before returning to the documentary winners. Do you think I should keep going with the documentary winners? I have a few posts of those stored up.
My comment on Goading the Democrats Off Message.
LOL, "turnip"

My comments on News from Michigan: Dana Nessel, Rashida Tlaib, and voter turnout at Booman Tribune.
Compiled from PBS NewsHour on the Michigan Attorney General contest, John Oliver examines State Attorneys General elections, CBS News profiles Rashida Tlaib, likely to be one of first Muslim women in Congress, and High voter turnout expected in Detroit, Michigan, and nationwide at Crazy Eddie's Motie News.
In the comments to Midweek Cafe and Lounge, Vol. 88, you asked for a Day of the Dead drink. By the time I found one, the diary had fallen off the rec list. To make up for that, here's Day of the Dead Watermelon Margarita - Tipsy Bartender.
My comment on Midweek Cafe and Lounge, Vol. 89.
Today is National Harvey Wallbanger Day, so here is How To Make The Harvey Wallbanger from Best Drink Recipes.
The Harvey Wallbanger is reported to have been invented in 1952 by three-time world champion mixologist Donato 'Duke' Antone (Paolantonio). The Harvey Wallbanger was brought to international prominence by then Galliano salesman, George Bednar. Legend has it that the drink was named after a Manhattan Beach surfer who was a regular patron of Duke's 'Blackwatch' Bar on Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood during the early 1950s.On another note, if you're going walkabout, should I take over this series until you return?
My comments on Postmortem.
I'd rather focus on the silver lining of this cloud, that Sessions' resignation is good for marijuana legalization. Speaking of which, recreational marijuana legalization was one of three Michigan proposals to pass, the others concerning redistricting reform and election reform. I'm sure the tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of stoners in the Great Lakes State will take that over a Russia investigation.
Besides, who needs to scream when there is good news for people who believe in diversity and representation. Debbie Stabenow and Gretchen Whitmer lead a list of women winning office in Michigan, including four new women elected to Congress from Michigan, although not all four will serve together, as one will only be in Washington, D.C. for the lame duck session. She will be replaced by one of the first Muslim women to serve in Congress, Rashida Tlaib. As I wrote, good news for diversity and representation.
My comments on Best Political Documentary nominees at the 2018 Critics' Choice Documentary Awards at Booman Tribune.
Excerpted, modified, and updated from 'Dark Money,' 'Hitler's Hollywood' and 'RBG' lead Best Political Documentary nominees at the 2018 Critics' Choice Documentary Awards at Crazy Eddie's Motie News.
I posted the follow-up entry about the winners of these awards at my personal blog: 'RBG' wins Best Political Documentary, 'Won’t You Be My Neighbor?' Best Documentary.
My comment on In Defending His Whitaker Pick, Trump Attempts to Placate Both Republicans and Lawyers.
"[O]ne of Trumps oddities is he loves Slavs, he married one for cripes sake."
Worse yet, from that perspective, he's married *two* of them. Don't forget that Ivana is Czech in addition to Melania being Slovenian, both Slavs.
My comments on Rock the Vote.
"[T]he skeleton crews of waiters stand around the empty Olive Gardens and Chipoltles playing liar’s poker with their depreciating dollars."
Don't forget all the people being laid off by Sears and KMart. Sears Holdings announced last week that the company is closing 40 more stores, 29 Sears and 11 KMart locations, which should shut their doors by February. Of course, that's in time to get all of the holiday shopping done, including after-Christmas sales, but maybe not returns. Speaking of which, KMart will be open all day on Thanksgiving while Sears will open Thanksgiving evening. The stink of retail desperation is strong with this move. Also, as Monty Python would say, "Sears and KMart, we're not dead yet!"
Always good to see you, too, K-Dog.
Midweek Cafe and Lounge, Vol. 90

Happy Hump Day! I'm taking over the DJ and bartender duties while Don Durito is on walkabout. For today's theme, I'm being a good environmentalist and recycling the songs I posted in the comments to Midweek Cafe and Lounge, Vol. 85, which were the finalists for Music Video of 2018 at the People's Choice Awards. Yes, I love awards shows.
Selena Gomez, "Back to You"I begin with the winner of not only Music Video of 2018, but also Song of 2018, Group of 2018, and Social Celebrity of 2018, BTS with "Idol."
Ariana Grande, "No Tears Left to Cry"
Childish Gambino, "This Is America"
Camila Cabello, "Never Be the Same"
BTS, "Idol"
While I voted for "This Is America" by Childish Gambino, I can see why this won. Speaking of which, here is my personal favorite.
My second favorite nominee was "No Tears Left To Cry" by Ariana Grande.
I'll post the videos of the other two finalists plus videos of songs by the other music winners in the comments.
Once again, I'm concluding the diary proper by quoting Don Durito.
For those of you wondering how I and Neon Vincent are circumventing Sucuri to embed videos, here is an example of the embed code we use, so that you can replicate as wanted:With those instructions, feel free to post your favorite music videos in the comments.
Just remember that each unique 11-digit video code in YouTube needs to be pasted in two separate locations within the embed code in order for your video to show up properly. So easy that I can do it!
The bar/cafe is open
Today, I'm recycling the drink I used in Midweek Cafe and Lounge, Vol. 58, Ariana Grande Frappuccino | Starbucks Secret Menu.

How to order:That looks like it tastes better than a unicorn frappucchino.
Start with a Vanilla Bean Frappuccino w/ Raspberry Syrup (aka the Cotton Candy Frappuccino)
Add extra mocha syrup
Add extra mocha chips
Blend
Top with extra whipped cream
Finish with a generous caramel drizzle
The Bartender is taking requests.
"Avengers: Infinity War" earned the most trophies of any movie at the People's Choice Awards, winning Movie of 2018, Action Movie of 2018, and Female Movie Star of 2018 for Scarlett Johansson. so it deserves a drink. Tipsy Bartender just happens to have four of them from the very first movie in the series six years ago:The Avengers Cocktails.
These cocktails are based on these four Avengers; The Hulk, Thor, Iron Man and Captain America.Drink to superheroes!

Like the previous drink and all the songs so far, I recycled this drink recipe, this time from Midweek Cafe and Lounge, Vol. 64. Hey, it's America Recycles Day!
"Idol" by BTS was my third choice, so here's my fourth choice, "Back to You" by Selena Gomez.
My fifth and last choice was "Never Be the Same" by Camila Cabello.
One of the movies that tied for second with trophies at the People's Choice Award was "Fifty Shades Freed," which won Drama Movie of 2018 and Drama Movie Star of 2018 for Jamie Dornan. Here is a drink for the first movie in the series, The 50 Shades of Grey Cocktail - Tipsy Bartender.
It's sexy, kinky, and a questionably dangerous... 50 SHADES OF GREY!! Watch the lovely Brittany make this color-changing cocktail as we discuss proper kinky sex ed!!Finally, a drink I don't think I've recycled from earlier episodes of this series. My personal blog is another matter.

My comments on An Odor of Perfidy.
"[T]he Special Counsel is still stalking Russian Facebook trolls" They're low-hanging fruit, as Vox explained; social media contributes to polarization and promotes trolls, conspiracy theorists, and fake news. To paraphrase Jack Nicholson's Joker, "this site needs an enema." However, that's not all the Russian influence our politics that is being pursued by the Justice Department, if not Mueller's team itself. Don't forget Maria Butina, who came from Russia to the NRA with love. Honeypot, anyone?
"Most Americans don’t even know what Russia is."
But Hollywood sure does. The spy drama "The Americans" won three awards at the 2018 Television Critics Association Awards, Program of the Year, Outstanding Achievement in Drama, and Individual Achievement in Drama for Keri Russell. In addition, "The Americans" earned two Emmy Awards, Outstanding Lead Actor In A Drama Series for Matthew Rhys and Outstanding Writing For A Drama Series. In a year when Russia involvement in U.S. politics was all over the news, "The Americans" (who are really Russian/Soviet spies) finally breaking through and getting major awards says something.
My comments on Welcome to GenderWorld.
"[L]ike those western wildfires turning every product of human endeavor in the burn-path to smoke and ash" — The Woolsey Fire hit close to home. I found out last week that the home where I grew up was in a mandatory evacuation zone. In the 25 years I lived there, that never happened. In addition, I don't recall my family ever telling me that had happened during the three decades I've lived in Michigan until this past week. Then again, 30 years ago, fire season in California lasted from August to October. Now, it's year-round.
Midweek Cafe and Lounge, Vol. 91

Happy Hump Day and happy Thanksgiving Eve! I'm continuing to be the DJ and bartender for this weekly series while Don Durito is on walkabout. For today's theme, I'm picking songs from Billboard's Thanksgiving Songs: Music About Food, Giving Thanks, and the Holiday.
The first song on the list just happens to tie into my love of awards shows, in this case, . As I reported in 'RBG' wins Best Political Documentary, 'Won’t You Be My Neighbor?' Best Documentary at my personal blog, Quincy Jones received Most Compelling Living Subject of a Documentary and the documentary "Quincy" won Best Music Documentary. With no further ado, here is Groovy Gravy.
Next, James Brown with Mashed Potatoes, U.S.A.
For the last song in the diary proper, I'm sharing Thanksgiving Theme by Vince Guaraldi from the Peanuts specials.*
I had to have some music for Snoopy to dance to.
Once again, I'm concluding the diary proper by quoting Don Durito.

My comment on Trump Can’t Even Pardon Turkeys Correctly
The original is a classic, but I prefer the cover by Orkestra Obsolete.
My comments on This Flight from Failure.
Regarding the development of craft in the fine and performing arts, I used to be a marching band judge and had to balance giving constructive criticism on the marching and equipment work with being as positive as possible; I was a visual judge, not a music judge, as I did not have a music degree. It was a challenge, although the bands did improve after listening to my comments and those of the other judges. In this case, improving craft did not interfere with the students' self esteem. Instead, I'd like to think it boosted it. Then again, competitive marching band shares a lot with figure skating, which is more sport than art.
As for your observation that "not that long ago, it was the Democrats who liked to insist that their opponents needed therapy and the GOP who reliably claimed that their opponents were morally evil," I can say I participated in that. Seven years ago, I posted Blast from the past: Pathology on the Right, a commentary on Krugman's "Two speeches and an editorial," itself a repost of something I orginally wrote for Daily Kos nine years ago. In it, I referred a lot to the WHO and DSM-IV criteria for Narcissistic Personality Disorder. I did not, however, think that therapy was worth pursuing. In the comments to the original Daily Kos entry, I wrote "Everything I've read about people with NPD is that they are very difficult to treat, even when they seek help." I still think so, which is why I'm not suggesting it for the politicians who display it.
I was a lot more understanding in Food Fight! Thoughts on liberalism and conservatism inspired by the Preface to Food, Inc., also a repost of a Daily Kos diary entry. I wrote it later, even though I posted it to my current blog earlier. Progress, I suppose.
"Chad, go look at the process by which the Clean Air Act and Endangered Species Act were passed. They were passed with bipartisan support and signed by a Republican president."
Yes, Richard Nixon. As a result of that and other of his actions,

Instead, I'd like to think it boosted it. In it, I referred a lot to the WHO and DSM-IV criteria for Narcissistic Personality Disorder. I did not, however, think that therapy was worth pursuing. In the comments to the original Daily Kos entry, I wrote "Everything I've read about people with NPD is that they are very difficult to treat, even when they seek help." I still think so, which is why I'm not suggesting it for the politicians who display it.<br /><br />I was a lot more understanding in <a href="https://crazyeddiethemotie.blogspot.com/2011/08/food-fight-thoughts-on-liberalism-and.html">Food Fight! My check for the latter was that it included the contribution of <a href="https://crazyeddiethemotie.blogspot.com/2018/08/rip-john-mccain-last-republican.html">the late John McCain</a> to the dissemination of the Steele Dossier, so it wasn't a partisan document. As for the rest of the people listed, many of them may be who Trump had in mind when he promised to "<a href="https://crazyeddiethemotie.blogspot.com/2018/11/last-week-tonight-with-john-oliver-on.html">drain the swamp</a>," although not the people his opposition thinks should be drained instead. When I saw that it came from The Epoch Times, it explained to me the former. I'm continuing to be the DJ and bartender for this weekly series while Don Durito is on walkabout. For today's theme, I'm posting my favorite songs from the "<a href="https://www.imdb.com/title/tt5071412/">Ozark</a>"* <a href="https://www.what-song.com/Tvshow/100247/Ozark">soundtrack</a>. For those of my readers who don't know about this Netflix series, IMDB states its premise as "A financial adviser drags his family from Chicago to the Missouri Ozarks, where he must launder $500 million in five years to appease a drug boss." Imagine "Breaking Bad" where the whole family, the Byrds, played by Jason Bateman, Laura Linney, Sofia Hublitz, and Skylar Gaertner, is in on it, not just Walter "Heisenberg" White, and they're laundering the money, not making and selling the drugs.<br /><br />The first song that caught my attention was Radiohead's "Deck's Dark," which played over the final scene of the first episode. It really helped convey the Byrd family's isolation in a new and unfamiliar, if spectacular, environment.
