Yesterday, I went to the doctor for my annual physical. While my weight was as low as it has ever been since I've been coming to him (I've lost more than 40 pounds over the past year), that's not what prompted me to write today. Instead, it was the next measurement they took, my height. The nurse announced that I was 72 inches tall. I told her that was six feet. I've never been six feet tall in all the six decades of my life! I've always been five foot eleven and a half, which was frustrating. My dad was six feet tall and I never could get taller than him until the last two years of my life, when he was dying of congestive heart failure. If anything I was expecting to start shrinking with age. Nope, not yet. Somehow, I managed to get that last half-inch near the end of middle age. Go figure!
