After posting the U$C Trojan Band four times on this blog, I realized that I had to balance it out, if not make up for it, by posting the UCLA Band performances in which I participated. To begin this project, I begin with what is almost certainly my first performance on a football field with the UCLA Band, 1977 - UCLA vs. Iowa Pregame 10/1/77.
I'm a freshman tuba player here and I think I'm next to one of the blanks/holes in the drill, either between the 45 and 50 to the camera's left or between the 40 and 45 on the camera's right. It's been 40 years and my memory isn't as good as either it used to be or I'd like it to be. I only recall the squad leader and assistant squad leader in my squad at that time and don't remember there being a fourth member at the start of the season. One joined later on, but not for this show.
As for how I felt, I recall being amazed at how many people there were and the other members of my squad telling me this was nothing. The Coliseum would be completely full by the USC-UCLA game. That will be the next video I post.
