Science and booze for two space holidays
Apr. 13th, 2018 12:35 pmLast night was Yuri's Night, the anniversaries of Yuri Gagarin becoming the first person to orbit the Earth in 1961 and the first space shuttle flight in 1981. Also, today is Apophis Day, the date in both 2029 and 2036 when the asteroid Apophis will pass too close for comfort to the Earth. For each day at Crazy Eddie's Motie News, I had science videos and at Booman Tribune I had space-themed drinks. I'm sharing both here.
First, Amy Shira Teitel of Vintage Space explains how Ivan Ivanovich Cleared the Way for Yuri Gagarin.
Next, her occasional colleague Trace Dominguez of Seeker/DNews answers the question What Happens When A Meteor Strikes Earth?

Most of the near earth objects that approach Earth burn up in our atmosphere. What happens to the ones that don’t?Welcome to the promise and peril of space.
