Yesterday, I posted a video of my very first performance in the UCLA Marching Band AKA The Solid Gold Sound.  Today, as promised, I post my last performance of the football season at the UCLA-USC game.  The theme of this show was recently dead celebrities -- Elvis, Groucho Marx, Bing Crosby, and Guy Lombardo, all of whom had passed in 1977.

The video cuts off at the end of "Auld Lang Syne."  That's just as well.  The last song was "Celebrate" by Three Dog Night.  My assistant squad leader thought that was tacky.  Then again, he disapproved of most of what the band did.  He was the one who pointed out that there was a phallic symbol in every show.  I asked him where it was in this show and he responded that the band was forming a pelvis for Elvis, and shook it around (just watch; it's there).  He thought that was even more sexually suggestive.

By the way, he was right that the stands were packed for this game, making this the biggest audience I had ever performed in front of (so far).  One of the things I noticed in the video was USC doing card tricks.  I'm not surprised that they were taunting us, saying "NO ROSES" and predicting that the University of Washington would go to the Rose Bowl instead of us.  They were right about that.

I'll be back tomorrow with the first of two shows from 1978.
