By the way, I think this is the first time I've heard all the lyrics in one sitting. My wife and I got about halfway through binging all of Monk so we've heard one of the verses all the way through multiple times, but may have heard the other verse only once, if that. I had to check to see if these were the original lyrics or if The Cog Is Dead added the second verse. Nope, all Randy Newman's.
I used to watch Monk. The theme seemed recognizable from somewhere. Maybe it's original to the show but it just seemed nostalgic of a song. Very catchy.
Oh, it's original to Monk. It won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Main Title Theme Music in 2004. That also explains why it feels nostalgic. Monk ran from 2002-2009, so it's more than 20 years old.
