I wrote "I have a feeling it will be the best live performance along with “Husavik” at the actual awards. Too bad the votes will be counted before the artists perform" in Oscar nominated scores and songs for National Film Score Day and repeated it in today's 'Judas and the Black Messiah' wins two Oscars. Sweden discovered my blog after I tweeted in response to Greta Thunberg

I wrote 2020 tied with 2016 for warmest year on record, NASA reports in response to a tweet by Greta Thunberg.

This news is neither abstract, far into the future, irrelevant nor hard to understand - which are the usual excuses for not covering the climate emergency.

I then tweeted the link as a response to her tweet. Beginning the next day, this happened to the page views of Time names Greta Thunberg Person of the Year for 2019, which I linked to in the post I tweeted.

During the previous three weeks, it had a grand total of 2 page views, so something changed.

That's not all. Here's a map showing where the readers for Crazy Eddie's Motie News as a whole were from during the same week.

Damn. The blog has had 9.47K page views from Sweden in its entire 10-year history, currently ranking it 11th overall, 12th if one counts "Unknown Region." That means that it had 2.12K page views before this week, which wouldn't have earned it a place in the top 20, as the current holders of that spot, South Korea and Turkmenistan, have 3.25K page views each during the past decade. Anyway, this could be a coincidence, but I doubt it.

A new top tweet for the month

On Twitter last night, I responded to a tweet quoting King George III singing "They will tear each other to pieces, Jesus Christ this will be fun, Da da da dat da dat da da da dai ya da..." with "Needs the music for full effect."

After only 10 hours, it already has more than 5,000 impressions and 100 interactions. The tweet I featured yesterday has a little over 3,000 impressions and 99 interactions. Sic transit gloria mundi.

I missed yesterday because I was leveling a SWTOR character

I missed blogging here yesterday. That's because, during the time I would have been posting a journal entry, I was in a couple of ops with the squad my wife leads on SWTOR. At the end of the second, I got one of my characters to level 70. I've been playing SWTOR for eight years now, but never got one of my characters that high. That's because my main goal has been to play all eight class stories to completion. Right now, I have seven completed and I'm about to land the last character on Corellia, the last planet in the sequence. I'll probably be done with the my main goal in a week.

Last year, I wrote that "I plan on posting an obituary a day until I run out, get tired of it, or get told to stop/banned. Any bets on which will happen first?" So far, none of them have happened. In fact, the opposite of the last occurred; I was made a mod of deathwatch. Surprise! That's the first time I've been promoted to mod on any community at JournalFen in either incarnation.

Oops! A Festivus grievance about myself

I was so busy yesterday that I didn't realize until now that I had neglected to post here yesterday. If I had, I would have including the following link to Crazy Eddie's Motie News that included some bragging about my powers of prognostication: Stocks and oil crash plus a driving update for Pearl. In it, I included the following.

IThe Dow closed at 22,445.37. That's at the top of the range I predicted it would fall to in The tax bill and the U.S. economy in 2018 and beyond.
I expect the Dow Jones Industrials to get above 25,000, struggle to break 26,000, then sink down to between 20,000 and 22,500 over the next couple of years.
...
Now I can collect on the Dow falling to between 20,000 and 22,500 by the end of 2020 a year early.

As for an actual Festivus post at Crazy Eddie's Motie News, I have one of those, too: Feats of animal strength for a Blue Norther on Festivus. Happy Festivus and happy Norther — a double celebration of fake holidays, a "Blue Norther on Festivus!"

Mutual ego stroking over the Nain Rouge movie

Before Thanksgiving, I found out one of my students is an actress in the Nain Rouge movie, so I showed her the blog post I wrote about it. The day before yesterday, she asked to take a screenshot of the post to show the director. Of course, I said yes, so she did and texted it to the director. He saw it and responded "OMG, LOL, cute!" That made my evening.

'Get Out' wins Ray Bradbury Award at the Nebula Awards

On Crazy Eddie's Motie News in February, I posted 'Get Out,' 'Logan,' and 'The Shape of Water' among nominees for the Ray Bradbury Award for Outstanding Dramatic Presentation and made a prediction.

Based on which the screenwriters have nominated for the WGA Awards as well as the Oscars, the real contenders are "Get Out," which won Best Original Screenplay at the WGA Awards and is nominated for an Oscar, "The Shape of Water," which was nominated for Best Original Screenplay at both the WGA Awards and the Academy Awards, and "Logan," which was nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay at both the WGA Awards and the Academy Awards. If the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America follow the lead of the WGA and the Writers Branch of the Motion Picture Academy, "Get Out" would be the favorite, followed by "Logan" and "The Shape of Water."

Earlier today, The Verge reported on the Nebula Award winners, writing "Jordan Peele’s film Get Out won the Ray Bradbury Award for Outstanding Dramatic Presentation...." My prediction came true!

I revealed something about myself in two of the reply threads. First, I used to work for Wendy's 1979-1980, so I know how they make their chili and will still eat it. Second, I know not to mess with redheads like Wendy because I was married to one. Key word, was.

As for the rest of the replies, there are so many that Twitter won't show them all to me without a lot of work. I'm not that ambitious this morning, so I'll spare myself and my readers the effort.

The Archdruid is good for my blogging after all

I've been a regular commenter over at Kunstler's blog for years, but I haven't been much of a participant over at The Archdruid Report until the past few weeks. There were three reasons for this. First, John Greer he Archdruid wasn't giving me what I couldn't already get at Kunstler's blog or The Oil Drum. Second, his comments are heavily moderated, while Kunstler's are only weakly so. Third, while he posts Wednesday P.M., he's just not a predictable as Kunstler. The latter two meant that I couldn't lure readers from his blog the way I could Kunstler's. So, I read when I had the opportunity, but didn't comment.

This year, that all changed. First, Kunstler moved from Peak Oil to finance. Then, The Oil Drum closed down. Finally, The Archdruid moved to a topic that he is uniquely suited to address, the role of belief systems in societies and how resource depletion would affect both societies and their beliefs. It was enough that, after two years, I finally found something of Greer's that I could feature on my blog, the description of civil antireligions in The Fate of Civil Religion that I excerpted and commented on to compose The Archdruid on Objectivism as civil antireligion. Then, he wrote an essay that I actually had something to say in response to, An Old Kind of Science, which I turned into A conversation with The Archdruid for the Solstice. The next week, he engaged in A Christmas Speculation, in which he called the GOP a bunch of closet Satanists who were hiding their true beliefs behind their devotion to Ayn Rand. I commented on that and converted the result into A conversation with The Archdruid about Objectivism, Satanism, and the GOP. I despise Objectivism, and couldn't resist a comparison between it and an unpopular religion. After all, two years ago, I posted Objectivism and Scientology: a sublime to the ridiculous comparison.

So, Greer isn't directly good for driving traffic. He is good for inspiring my writing, which is proving to be good for bringing readers in. I posted a link to the most recent entry about the Archdruid to Kunstler's blog this morning. So far, I've pulled in 400+ page views to that post, moving it up to the ~~second~~ third most read entry this calendar year and the ninth most read in the history of the Crazy Eddie's Motie News. That only took 12 hours. I think I'll keep reading and responding to The Archdruid after all.
