Heh. I grew up there, on top of the San Andreas Fault. Also got to experience the '92 Landers Quakes firsthand, and spent 4 different weekends at the Tar Pits, which are fascinating.

Cool. I grew up in Los Angeles, so south and west of you. I moved out of California to Michigan in 1989, so I missed that quake and especially the 1994 Northridge Earthquake, the epicenter of which was within a stone's throw of one of my parents' houses. Also, I spent four years as Student-in-residence at the Tar Pits. I'm the world's expert on the fossil mollusks of the place.
